Scooter Pie

The “scooter pie” is similar to the older “moon pie,” with both featuring marshmallow sandwiched between graham crackers and covered in chocolate. “Scooter pie"was trademarked in 1959 and was sold by Burry’s(then part of Quaker Oats).

The name “scooter pie” was in honor of “The Scooter”—New York Yankee shortstop Phil Rizzuto (1917-2007).

Description

The Moon Pie goes to college. Same concept, marshmallow between two crumbly graham crackers covered with chocolate, only way better. Made by the Bury Company of Ohio. You can still get ‘em at http://www.hometowntreats.com, but they are made by another company.

WPIX in Yank Finale Today?

Will today’s game against the Tigers be the final Yankee telecast on WPIX-TV/Channel 11? There may be no more birthday wishes or Scooter Pie references by Phil Rizzuto if WPIX cannot make a deal with the MSG Network.

Another distant cousin of the Mallomars is the Scooter Pie named after Yankee legend Phil (Scooter) Rizzuto. Unfortunately, it tastes like a down-market knockoff of Mallomars.

Biography of an out-of-this-world snack

Pg. 50:
In northern regions of the country and the Midwest, a similar snack called a ” Scooter Pie” began to claim shelf space. It is no longer made but had been produced at the time by Nabisco, and one-time connoisseurs of the Scooter Pie say it only resembled the Moonpie in size and general composition, meaning it had marshmallow and cookes as base elements.

Scooter Pies or Moon Pies?
Posted by Lvn4life, August 22, 2011 at 1:01 PM
Ok so I must admit I grew up in the very early 70’s and had a “scooter pie” everyday as a treat!! And then I hear about “moon pies” and wasnt sure if it was the same treat I ate in my youth!?! Granted i’ve had some say that the scooter pie is a remake of the original moon pie but wanted to get your perspective. So what are you thoughts?

Moon pies came first, toward the beginning of the 20’th century, then Burry (original bakery for Girl Scout Cookies) started selling Scooter pies sometime in the ‘60’s I believe. Both are basically two round graham crackers with marshmallow cream sandwiched between and covered in a flavored candy coating (chocolate, vanilla, and banana as I recall). Moon Pies are still around and come in a few other flavors like lemon, Scooter Pies went out of production when Burry’s was sold.

I grew up with Scooter Pies as well. The name is in tribute to late baseball great, Phil ‘Scooter’ Rizzuto.
