Robot or -bot (Obamabot or O-bot; Paulbot)

The suffix “-bot” (for"robot”) is often added after a politician’s name to show deluded, robot-like followers. For the 2007-2008 U.S. presidential campaign, followers of Ron Paul were sometimes called “Paulbots” and followers of Barack Obama were sometimes called “Obamabots” or “O-bots.”

The “-bot” suffix in politics dates to at least October 1992, when listeners of conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh were called “Limbots.” A December 1992 post used the terms “Clintonbot” (after Bill Clinton). “Gorebot” (after Al Gore) and “Dembot” (after Democrat, probably with a nod to the older term “fembot”). To be called a political “-bot” is usually derogatory.

Paulbot
Freedom and personal liberty loving online supporters of Ron Paul were given this name by close-minded individuals who only follow main-stream media’s propaganda and lies. The close-minded refuse to believe that Ron Paul has more support than landline phone polls reflect, and therefore any online entity that supports Ron Paul must be a ‘bot’. Fortunately for America there are millions of people who support the only hope for America’s future, Ron Paul.

A lot of Limbots seem to have trouble with this tricky “if/then” construction, so let’s try to make this very, very simple.

March of the Obots
By James Lewis
“This is what we do. Just walkin’ the halls all day, baby. F-k class, that s-t’s for clowns man. [Laughter from his friends] We don’t go to class ‘round here. Man, f-k academics. That ain’t me, dawg. Academics, we gonna leave that to them nerd-ass mahf-kers. We gon’ keep s-t straight hood up in here.” —From the HBO documentary, Hard Times at Douglass High. quoted by Sonny Bunch in the Weekly Standard

My son-in-law is an Obot. I’m sorry, that’s the kindest thing I can say. A specimen of his thinking is this: He likes Barack Obama because Hillary is just too white.

How one word developed a split personality

August 21, 2011|By Erin McKean
TO ME, ONE of the best things about being an English speaker is affixes - those little additions before or after the root of a word that can transform its meaning.

When -bot words do turn unfriendly, they emphasize the knee-jerk automaticity of what’s being done, and so are often political. There are Obamabots and Randbots; Romneybots, Republibots, and Dembots, Conserva-bots, Bushbots, Palinbots, Paulbots (Ron Paul enthusiasts), and Limbots (followers of Rush Limbaugh).
