Referette (female referee)

A “referee” is a sports official who administers a game; the term is neither masculine nor feminine. Few referees in professional sports are women. “Referette” (a female referee) has been cited in print since at least 2007.

In 2012, the National Football League had a labor dispute with its a referees and a woman referee was hired. One blogger wrote, “What are we supposed to call her—a referette? A refershee?”

The only way the Boks can win is if the referees/referettes ignore foul play, especially at breakdown as that is where the Boks stall the rythym of attacking sides like the All Blacks.
