“Put a little money away every month and at the end of the year ...” (joke)
Banks often say to save a little bit of money from every paycheck, and that it will accumulate into a nice amount. “Put a little money away every month at end the end of the year you’ll be surprised how little you have” was listed under “Perhac’s Conclusions” in the book 1,001 Logical Laws (1979) by John Peers and Gordon Bennett.
“Peter’s Financial Principle XI: Put a little money away each month and at the end of the year you will be surprised how little you have” was written by Laurence J. Peter in the Los Angeles (CA) Times on February 11, 1983. “Best financial tip, from Ernest Haskin: ‘Save a little money each month and at the end of the year you’ll be amazed at how little you have’” was printed in the San Francisco (CA) Chronicle on December 21, 1983. The saying is usually credited to Ernest Haskins (not Haskin), but this is probably incorrect and he didn’t say it before 1983.
