PLT (plant, lettuce and tomato)
McDonald’s restaurants in some countries introduced the “PLT” (plant-lettuce-tomato) sandwich in 2019. The name is a take-off on the “BLT” (bacon-lettuce-tomato) sandwich.
“PLT” had sometimes been used for pastrami-lettuce-tomato sandwiches. “The name bothers me. PLT? Plant. Lettuce. Tomato. 🤔 It’s a bit redundant since lettuce and tomatoes are plants. 😂🤣” was posted on Twitter by Jill Sarmie on September 28, 2019.

We’ve been speculating for some time on the plant-based burger’s arrival at McDonald’s. When will it happen? Which meat route will they go? Could it possibly overthrow Burger King’s vegan Whopper? Well, folks, we might finally get those answers. The fast food giant is testing its new Beyond burger at 28 locations starting September 30.
According to the company, who announced the news on Twitter Thursday morning, McDonald’s locations in Southwestern Ontario will welcome the “PLT” burger—which means plant, lettuce, tomato, BTW.

McDonald’s starts selling its Beyond Meat-based “P.L.T.” sandwich in Canada
Jonathan Shieber@jshieber / 10:20 am EDT • September 30, 2019
McDonald’s first foray into the plant-based protein patty market in North America is launching today in Canada.
The company’s “P.L.T.” (plant, lettuce, and tomato) sandwich, which uses patties from Beyond Meat, is now on sale at several locations in Canada.
This isn’t the first new vegetarian sandwich to launch at a “Golden Arches” location this year. Back in April, the company launched a new vegan sandwich for customers in its franchise locations across Germany.

For months, McDonald’s has been on the sidelines as fast food rivals such as Burger King, Del Taco and White Castle introduced items made with plant-based meat.
On Monday, it tiptoed into the faux burger field by introducing the P.L.T., which stand for plant-based meat, lettuce and tomato, in Canada.
The patty is supplied by Beyond Meat, one of the two faux burger giants, along with Impossible Foods.
