Pinky Friedman (pink cocktail named after Kinky Friedman)

The “Pinky Friedman” cocktail was first created in 2005 and named after Texas author and then-gubernatorial candidate Kinky Friedman. The pink drink contains Paula’s Texas Orange liqueur, Tito’s vodka, cranberry juice, and a squueze of fresh lime. Both Paula’s and Tito’s are Austin-based products.

In 2003 Paula released Paula’s Texas Orange, an 80-proof liqueur made from fresh oranges.  Monica Pope, award-winning chef/owner of Houston’s t’afia Restaurant, was one of the first to hail the locally made product.  It’s a great liqueur and much lower in price than other orange-based liqueurs made in foreign places (other than Texas).  Perfect for Texas-style Margaritas as well as Cosmos, Sangria and Mimosas.  In Austin, the popular “Pinky Friedman” drink, named for the 2006 independent gubernatorial candidate and all-around Texas legend, Kinky Friedman, is made with Paula’s Texas Orange, Tito’s Handmade Vodka, cranberry juice and lime.

And THAT’s why I don’t like ice cream…

The First Thursday of every month, South Congress stays open late. Booths go up w/ people selling clothes, crafts, whatever. Bands come out to play. I went down there w/ a couple of friends to hang out at Guero’s. If you ever go down there, you should get a “Pinky Friedman”. It’s a drink, named after gubernatorial candidate Kinky Friedman, that they had on First Thursday 2 months ago, made of Tito’s vodka, OJ, and cranberry I think. It’s pretty good, but the main reason you should have one is so that Daniel won’t be recognized as “that Pinky Friedman guy” anymore.
