OuterB or Outerb (Outer Borough)

“OuterB” is a Queens real estate blog that was named in January 2006. “OuterB” stands for “outer borough” (i.e., not the borough of Manhattan). The term has been sparsely used, but also given as “outerb.” Perhaps “outerB” is pronounced “outer bee” and “outerb” is like “suburb”?

Cool New Thing: OuterB Gets Its Queens On
Wednesday, January 18, 2006, by Lockhart
The latest goodness in real estate blogs comes from a borough near and dear to Curbed’s heart: Queens. Which is why we won’t even point out the humor of the Fedders air conditioner in the graphical banner of OuterB, a new blog that’s actually an evolution of the less euphonically named Queens Open House Reviews. Plenty of detail on properties for sale and copious links to Queens-related news, air-cooled for your reading pleasure.

A lot of the trains from the outerbs into Manhattan are a mess.

Unfortunately for the outer boros, I have found Bloomberg and his predecessor to be as manhattan centric as Lindsay was. The outerB’s are there only to supply Manhattan with workers and supplies, and Lord knows when the day is over, the workers must leave the Island and go back from whenst they came. It is a crime. Then when Manhattanites find a nice enclave out here, they pay too much for it, think it’s a bargain and then price those of us living here out! There must be a balance, although right now my brain hurts and I can’t quite come up with one.

It is important, no essential, that the resources of NYC be diverted to the machine for tweeding and developers for paying off campaign ‘debts’.

If this means that the communities in the outerb’s get hollowed out, and the the vitality gets sucked out of the business community by the parasitic clubhouse, then its a burden that we all must carry and damn the results.
