“Only in New York” (2002)

Thoroughly Modern Millie was a 1967 movie that starred Julie Andrews and Mary Tyler Moore. The stage version, starring Sutton Foster, opened on Broadway April 2002 and closed June 2004.

The action supposedly takes place in the 1920s. The stage musical added the song "Only in New York," with lyrics by Dick Scanlon and music by Jeanine Teson. "Only in New York" appears to be an anachronism for the 1920s, but I've also seen the stage versions of Chicago and Ragtime and Titanic, so don't get me started there!

The song "Only in New York" hasn't become a hit, but should be noted.

Step right up to Treasure Isle
Ev'ry inch of it, a sky-high mile
Fairytale land
Only in New York

Hey castle-builder
Want the moon, and nothing less?
Work for years, then overnight success
I know firsthand
Only in New York
