“On the keyboard of life, always keep one finger on the escape key”

“On the keyboard of life, always keep one finger on the escape key” is a one-line saying that has been printed on many images. “On the Keyboard of Life, Always Keep One Finger on the Escape Key” was listed as a T-shirt saying in the Detroit (MI) Free Press on October 16, 1995.

The saying is frequently credited to the Dilbert comic strip, in such lists as “Dilbert’s Word of Wisdom” or “Dilbert’s Rules of Order.” However, the first credit to Dilbert appears to be in 1998—several years after the saying had been cited in print.
