On the Border by the Sea (Brownsville slogan)
Brownsville in the lower Rio Grande Valley is close to the Mexico border and by the Gulf of Mexico. “On the Border by the Sea” has been a Brownsville slogan since 1966.
In 2008, an attempt was made by the Brownsville Convention and Visitors Bureau to change the city slogan to “Brownsville with a History as Big as Texas.”

Brownsville, on the border by the sea, awaits its visitors from the north
Tropical palms of every variety, sparkling sunshine and beautiful girls are only three ingredients in the well-spiced recipe for winter fun and relaxation that Brownsville offers the soon-to-be snowbound people of the northern states and Canada.
“On the Border, By the Sea” is the slogan chosen by the Greater Brownsville Commission to describe the varied charms of Brownsville and the Magic Valley of the Rio Grande. it tells the story as well as any six words can, but there’s so much more that the visitor really has to spend a few months here to sample all the infinite variety Brownsville ha to offer.

BCVB unveils new logo, slogan
September 15, 2008 - 10:28PM
The Brownsville Convention and Visitors Bureau unveiled its new logo during a rainy ceremony on Monday.
In addition to a new design created by local artist Don Breeden, the BCVB introduced the new city slogan “Brownsville with a History as Big as Texas.”
“We’ve had ‘On the Border by the Sea’ for years,” said Mariano “Bean” Ayala, president and CEO of the BCVB. “The board decided that maybe it was time to do something different.”
Nearly 70 people from the community attended the BCVB event despite the rainy conditions.
Ayala said that other cities commonly change the city slogan every few years. Recently, the BCVB has shifted its emphasis to promoting Brownsville’s unique history.
