“No peacocks, no jerks, no whiners”

President Barack Obama nominated Jack Lew for Treasury secretary and made a few comments on his current Treasure secretary, Tim Geithner, on January 10, 2013:

“On a personal note, Tim has been a wonderful friend and a dependable adviser throughout these last four years. You know, there’s an unofficial saying over at Treasury: no peacocks, no jerks, no whiners. That’d be a good saying for all of Washington: no peacocks, no jerks, no whiners.”

The authorship of the Treasury saying is unknown. “No whiners, no jerks” was cited in print in 1999. “No braggarts, no jerks, no whiners” was cited in print in 2010, as was “a ‘no whiners and no jerks’ policy.” The “no peacocks” (no people who strut personal vanity) part of the saying had been used rarely.

What we’re looking for
We want a small guild of friendly, laid back characters who don’t get hissy when a quest fails halfway through and its taken up an hour. No braggarts, no jerks, no whiners. We just want plain, friendly people to have fun with, without snippy attitudes.

Concerning the cancellations, perhaps the lady has a “no whiners and no jerks” policy.

Rachel Maddow Obliterates the Republican Lie that Obama has Blown Up the Deficit

(Quoting Rachel Maddow from MSNBC’s The Rachel Maddow Show—ed.)
No peacocks, no jerks, no whiners. Sounds good in English, but it’s going to sound even better when they put it in Latin on the back of a quarter.
