“No matter where you go, there you are”

“No matter where you go, there you are” is a saying that has been printed on many images. Its origins in the 1960s are uncertain.

“Always remember: ‘No matter where you go..there you are!’” was printed in the Hartford (CT) Courant on August 29, 1963. “Lt. Col. C. Gordon Furbish of the air force has a theory: ‘No matter where you go, there you are’” was printed in the Chicago (IL) Tribune on May 1, 1966.

“No Matter Where You Go (There You Are)” was a 1967 song title by American Cajun country rock musician and songwriter Floyd August “Gib” Guilbeau (1937-2016). In 1968, the saying was used by the American sunshine pop band The Association.

“No matter where you go… there you are” was a line in the film The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension (1984), with a script by Earl Mac Rauch.

From the film’s dialogue

. Hey, hey, hey — don’t be mean. We don’t have to be mean. ‘Cause, remember: no matter where you go… there you are.
