The departments of New York City have several famous superlative nicknames:

In 2026, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani called New York City’s children—especially preschoolers enrolled in child care programs—“New York’s cutest.” “Yesterday, alongside New York’s Cutest, I was proud to announce a major step forward for early childhood education in our city. We’re officially launching 2-K and expanding 3-K by opening a request for new providers ready to help deliver these essential services” was posted on Bluesky by Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani on February 6, 2026. “Today, President Barack Obama and I read to a group of toddlers at Learning Through Play Pre-K Center in the South Bronx.  In between singing wheels on the bus, we discussed our administration’s vision for this City — one where New York’s Cutest have the strongest start possible” was posted on Bluesky by Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani on April 18, 2026.
