“Never trust weather forecasters or politicians”

“The old adage, ‘Never believe weather forecasters or politicians’” was cited in a 2015 North Vancouver (British Columbia) newspaper, when a former CBC meteorologist decided to go into politics. It’s not known when the adage began or where it was popularized. The saying appears to be known in many countries, including the United States, Canada and Australia.

“Most politicians perform like weathermen. They take measurements on popular thinking and then prognosticate what they should do to be popular” was cited in 1971 in a Dallas (TX) newspaper. “Weather forecasters and politicians….....the only two jobs in the world where you can continually get it wrong and stuff up most of the time and still keep your job and get well paid!!!” was cited in 2008 on an Australian message board. “Never trust weather ‘forecasters’ or politicians” was cited in 2009.

Crap! It’s beautiful here in Arvada this a.m. I’m beginning to think there are at least two groups of people we should be very skeptical about believing their statements - politicians and weather forecasters.

They said there’d be snow at Christmas. They said there’d be peace on earth. You just can’t trust weather forecasters or politicians.

Former CBC meteorologist Claire Martin obviously doesn’t believe in the old adage, “Never believe weather forecasters or politicians.”

On Wednesday, the former national forecaster announced she’ll be wading into some heavy political weather as the federal Green Party’s candidate in North Vancouver.
