“My favorite part about farmers market is when cutting the middleman out makes the veggies more expensive”
A farmers market means buying food directly from farmers, so why aren’t the prices much cheaper? This was posted on X/Twitter by Nikhil Krishnan on November 2, 2024, and it received over 148,000 likes:

It’s been explained that local farmers often operate on a smaller scale, and often grow organic food (without pesticides). A larger scale operation can sell food cheaper. Also, food in the supermarket might be stored longer, while food in a farmers market is usually fresh.

I read a comment somewhere on X about going to a farmers market where cutting out the middleman makes things more expensive.
I guess sellers at farmers markets are not billionaires receiving the large part of these subsidies. The agriculture industry is being heavily distorted.

I miss the days when produce was cheaper at the farmers market…somehow cutting out the middleman has now made it more expensive…
