Moscow on the Hudson (Upper West Side)

Moscow on the Hudson (1984) was a memorable movie that starred Robin Williams.

For Republicans, the upper west side of Manhattan ("on the Hudson" river) is a bleak area, indeed. The voters are almost all liberal Democrats.

Republicans have called the upper west side "Moscow on the Hudson" for its one-party system, as in the old Soviet Union.

The New York Post, noting that District 3 covers the Upper West Side, characteristically added that this section of the city was "once termed, for good reason, 'Moscow-on-the-Hudson.' Condemning America is par for the course in much of that left-wing loony bin." In its invincible ignorance, the Post does not realize that in this comment it is jubilantly engaging in McCarthyism.

So, recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance is voluntary. In some cities and towns, such as New York City, students are actually informed of their right to remain silent. In the very liberal District 3, on New York's Upper West Side, school board member Larry Sauer made a motion to let each of the schools in the district decide how to deal with the perplexing problem of the Pledge of Allegiance. In District 3, jokingly called "Moscow on the Hudson", pledging allegiance to our American republic threw liberals into consternation. New York liberals feared that patriotism might not be suitable for children. Every child must be read his rights before being offered the opportunity to join in a civic celebration of his nation and an affirmation of his dedication to its highest ideals of liberty and justice for every citizen.

New York City's Upper West side is due for a change. It's time for Republicans to take over the district that many refer to as "Moscow on the Hudson" for its clear Left-leaning politics.

She makes light of evidence of potential deadly threats. She compares Saddam's legacy to her upscale Moscow-on-the-Hudson Upper West Side chatterbox friends. Just a curiosity to talk about at cocktail parties, right?

Of all places, a city council race is somewhat competitive in the upper west side (yes, Moscow on the Hudson) because of the influx of Modern Orthodox replacing the older Jewish stalinists.

Overall Jews voted overwhelmingly for Republicans in 3 of the last 4 Mayoral races, twice against Jewish democrats.

Hell, I was out Saturday night to dinner with my girlfriend - St. Valentine's Day - when one in the group of eight (middle aged) next to us referred to Americans that support President Bush as fu**ing a**holes for being too stupid to recognize how, in his annointed view, stupid GWB is. Needless, the upper east side of Manhattan is only steps behind the "Moscow on the Hudson" upper west side in arrogance and pomposity - fortunately the party left before his garbage mouth expressed any more views.
