“Money no longer talks—it now goes without saying”

“Money talks” (meaning that money has influence) is an old financial saying, cited in print in various forms to before 1700. “It goes without saying” means that something is obvious and doesn’t need to be said. “Money no longer talks—it just goes without saying” has been cited in print since at least April 1948. “Money doesn’t talk these days—it goes without saying” has been cited in print since at least May 1950.
 
The saying means that money has so much influence these days that it no longer has to “talk”—its influence is obvious and “goes without saying.”
