“You can’t buy happiness, but you can buy ice cream”
“You can’t buy happiness, but you can buy ice cream” (or “Money can’t buy happiness, but it can buy ice cream”) is a popular saying that has been printed on posters. The saying is of unknown authorship and has been cited in print since at least 2007, but became popular on blogs since 2010.
Frequent endings include “You can’t buy happiness, but you can buy ice cream and that’s kind of the same thing” and “You can’t buy happiness, but you can buy ice cream, and I’m not ready to live in a world where there’s a difference” and “You can’t buy happiness, but you can buy ice cream and that’s close enough, right?”
“If money can’t buy happiness, explain pizza” is a related saying.
