MaNo (Manhattan North) is a sparsely used neighborhood nickname that appeared in 2008. A slightly more popular neighborhood nickname arising at about the same time for the same area is  
NoMa (Northern Manhattan).

In our city, silly neighborhood abbreviations regularly crop up. NoHa for North Harlem and MaNo for “Manhattan North,” are examples; for Spanish Harlem it’s SpaHa. This real estate tactic creates the impression of something fresh —as if what was there to begin with had little appeal.
