“Love, peace and chicken grease” (“Love, peace and taco grease”)

“Love, peace and hair grease” is a nonsense goodbye, cited in print since September 1991, when it was used by the rapper Flavor Flav. “Love, peace and chicken grease” has been used since at least 1993.

“Love, peace and taco grease” has been cited in print since 1999. Television chef Guy Fieri claims to have coined this saying at The Red Iguana in Salt Lake City (UT) for an epsiode that aired on September 15, 2008, but this is several years after the “taco” version had been first used.

William Jonathan Drayton, Jr. (born March 16, 1959), better known by his stage name Flavor Flav, is an American rapper, television star, and member of the rap group Public Enemy. He is also known for popularizing the role of the hype man and for yelling “Yeah boy!” and “Flavor Flav!” during performances.

After falling out of the public eye for a number of years, he has recently reappeared as the star of several VH1 reality series, including The Surreal Life, Strange Love, and Flavor of Love.

ZAC BROWN BAND: ‘LOVE, PEACE AND CHICKEN GREASE’
Fishing fans who plan to be in Shreveport-Bossier City, La., for the Feb. 20-22 Bassmaster Classic can look forward to the bonus of a free concert by the Zac Brown Band.

On Saturday, Feb. 21, ZBB will perform on the Classic stage at Bossier City’s CenturyTel Center at 3 p.m. CT, just before the Day Two weigh-in begins.

As anyone who follows ZBB knows, the group’s hit single “Chicken Fried” is peppered with references to food. On the group’s Web site, http://www.zacbrownband.com, many of the band’s messages are signed: “Love, Peace and Chicken Grease.” But do these musicians really know anything about cooking?

Yes. Before Zac Brown became a full-time professional picker, the Georgia native was a chef and restaurant owner.
