Korean Corn Dog

South Korea
In South Korea, a corn dog is one of the most popular street foods. A corn dog is usually called “hot dog” in the Korean language (핫도그), creating confusion with a genuine hot dog. A French fry-encrusted corn dog, or “Kogo,” has especially attracted the attention of Western visitors,[26] including vegans (using vegan hot dogs).

Just ate a Korean corndog covered in sugar and ketchup. It wasn’t horrible. And they say we eat too much sugar and fat!

for some reason it’s more fun to call them 도깨비방망이 핫도그 (goblin’s club hotdog) though, it’s just a funny reference for a corndog covered in potatoes

Korean Corn Dog
Korean corn dogs are hot dogs coated in a batter, then deep fried and finished with sugar. They’re sweet and salty and completely delicious.

American corn dogs are battered in a cornmeal batter and Korean corn dogs are battered in a yeasted dough or a rice flour batter.

Korean corn dogs are also finished with a sprinkling of sugar. And last of all, Korean corn dogs don’t actually have to have hot dogs in them. There are plenty of Korean corn dogs that are just mozzarella cheese, fish cake, or rice cakes.

10 Places to Enjoy NYC’s Can’t-Miss Korean Corn Dogs
From the classic, sugar-sprinkled kind to ramen-studded ones

Korean corn dogs, one of the most beloved street foods in Korea, are suddenly popping up everywhere. In recent months, New Yorkers have been spotted waiting in long lines to get a bite of the extra crispy, slightly sweet, and saucy concoctions filled with mozzarella cheese, a hot dog, or both. These Korean corn dogs set themselves apart from American ones because of their (dare we say: superior) toppings and batter. Some shops use rice flour in the batter, creating a slightly chewy-yet-light texture to every bite. Another pro tip: Don’t go light on toppings, either. To get the whole experience, be sure to ask for the Korean corn dog to be tossed in sugar and drizzled with all types of sauces — from cheesy cheddar sauce to creamy mayo.
