“It’s only Quarantine if it’s in the Quarante region of France” (joke)

The 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic resulted in quarantines. “Champagne” is sometimes used as a generic term for sparkling wine, but legally, it must come from the Champagne wine region of France. Some people joked that “quarantine” must come from the Quarante region of France, but the word “quarantine” derives from the 40 days that some ships had to isolate off shore.

“It’s only a Quarantine if it’s forty days in a Venetian lazaretto.  Otherwise it’s just sparkling isolation” was posted on Twitter by Jonathan Lennox on March 3, 2020. “It’s only quarantine if it’s from the Quarantine region in France, otherwise it’s just sparkling isolation” was posted on Twitter by Benjamin Suchard on March 9, 2020.

Etymology and terminology
The word quarantine comes from quarantena, meaning “forty days”, used in the 14th–15th-centuries Venetian language and designating the period that all ships were required to be isolated before passengers and crew could go ashore during the Black Death plague epidemic; it followed the trentino, or thirty-day isolation period, first imposed in 1347 in the Republic of Ragusa, Dalmatia (modern Dubrovnik in Croatia).

Wikipedia: Quarante
Quarante is a commune in the Hérault department in the Occitanie region in southern France.

that joke tweet about it only being a quarantine if it’s from the quarante region of france?
quarantine is from the 40 days ships had to stay away from ports in Italy so it’s more a Prosecco joke than a Champagne joke.
