Israeli Double Standard Time
“Israeli Double Standard Time” (or “Israel Double Standard Time”) means a time for “double standards” on Israel. Blogger Meryl Yourish (originally from New Jersey, now in Richmond, VA) popularized the term and has a blog subject heading called “Israeli Double Standard Time” (with the first article tagged dated September 8, 2005). In a March 4, 2006 post, Yourish wrote, “What time is it, kids? Say it with me: Israel Double Standard Time.” A familiar post ending is, “What time is it? That’s right, it’s Israeli Double Standard Time. But don’t worry. It only occurs on days that end with a ‘y.’” Yourish regularly has pointed out that Israel is constantly called for alleged offenses that are ignored if done by someone else.
“Israeli Double Standard Time” was mentioned in a September 20, 2005 comment on the blog Jewlicious. Several blogs have picked up the “Israeli Double Standard Time” line, but Yourish is the chief popularizer of the term.
Wikipedia: Standard time
Standard time is the result of synchronizing clocks in different geographical locations within a time zone to the same time rather than using the local meridian as in local mean time or solar time. The time so set has come to be defined in terms of offsets from Universal Time. (See more about standard time.)
Where daylight saving time is used, the term standard time typically refers to the time without daylight saving time.
Wikipedia: Double standard
A double standard is the unjust application of different sets of principles for similar situations. The concept implies that a single set of principles encompassing all situations (a “single standard”) is the desirable ideal. The word is first recorded in 1912. A double standard may take the form of an instance in which certain concepts (often, for example, a word, phrase, social norm, or rule) are perceived as acceptable to be applied by one group of people, but are considered unacceptable—taboo—when applied by another group.

This, from the group whose suicide bombers have killed or wounded thousands of Israelis. A “culture of hate.” And the AP quotes him as if he has some sort of legitimacy.

Israeli Double Standard Time
Jewish blogger Meryl Yourish has a category on her blog called “Israeli Double Standard Time” in which she catalogues egregious instances where Israel is singled out or disproportionately criticised for doing something either a) some other country does routinely, yet avoids criticism or b) some other country does routinely to Israel, yet avoids criticism. It’s an impressive compendium of biased reporting and poisoned international relations and, in my opinion anyway, goes a long way towards demonstrating the bizarro-world political atmosphere in which Israel must operate

But it’s just Israeli kids, who have the misfortune to live within rocket range of palestinians. So the world doesn’t care.

Meryl Yourish has a whole category within her blog called “Israeli Double Standard Time.” That is where she documents certain trends in the media when it comes to reporting on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Certain things that always seem to make their way into those accounts.

When is a war crime not a war crime?

The charge of “war crime” is thrown endlessly at Israel, to the point that the Goldstone Report was commissioned and issued by the United Nations Human Rights Committee. It dealt with supposed war crimes by Israel, yet did not once accuse Hamas of war crimes.

No, the label of war crimes is never attached to actual war crimes perpetrated by Palestinians against Israelis. That label is reserved for Israel only, especially when Israel is doing no such thing.
We must once again call on a refrain we got too tired to use recently. What time is it? That’s right, it’s Israeli Double Standard Time. But don’t worry. It only occurs on days that end with a “y.”
