“Is a subpar golfer good or bad?”

“Is a subpar golfer good or bad?” is a jocular saying. “Subpar” usually means below average (par), or bad. However, a golfer who goes below par is playing well.

“If you’re a subpar golfer, does that make you good or bad?” was posted on Twitter by John Francis Daley‏ on June 28, 2011. The golf question has been printed on an image.

Many people insist that the hyphen makes all the difference—a “subpar” gofler is bad, but a “sub-par” golfer is good.

If someone said “I’m a subpar golfer” I would have no idea whether they were good or bad…
