“Insisting on rights without acknowledging responsibilities isn’t freedom, it’s adolescence”

“Insisting on your rights without acknowledging your responsibilities isn’t freedom, it’s adolescence” is a saying that has been printed on many images. The saying became popular during the 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic, often used to justify government actions (shutting businesses, face mask requirements, etc.).

“There are rights and there are responsibilities. You must have rights as a human but insisting on your rights without acknowledging your responsibilities isn’t freedom, it’s adolescence” was posted on Twitter by Mohamad Safa on April 23, 2020. “Insisting on your rights without acknowledging your responsibilities isn’t freedom it’s adolescence” was posted on Twitter by MedicRN on April 29, 2020.

The many images of this saying usually show a father-figure with a pipe—and sometimes also with a face mask.

Please wear a mask in public. Refusing to respect the health and safety of others is no more your “right” than driving on the wrong side of the road or peeing on the sidewalk.

“In Brooklyn I’m seeing probably 40% of people wearing a mask,” Chris Rock says during NY Gov. Cuomo’s presser. “The kids really aren’t wearing the mask. It’s sad that our health has become a political issue. It’s a status symbol almost to not wear a mask” https://cbsn.ws/2X9zadr
