“In Scandinavia, they call it the Kronavirus”

The 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic has nothing to do with the Danish krone, Icelandic króna, Norwegian krone or Swedish krona, but there are jokes.

“Maybe it was Norwegian #KronaVirus” was posted on Twitter by Chris Cook on January 27, 2020. “Covid has been found circulating on Norwegian currency. It’s the Kroner virus” was posted on Reddit—Jokes on April 1, 2020.

“So should we be avoiding all transactions in Swedish currency? Or only those in physical money? #kronervirus” was posted on Twitter by Richard Werkhoven on February 5, 2020. “David Puddy counting Swedish money in taxi cab has kronavirus” was posted on Twitter by phlegmolition man on March 1, 2020. “If COVID-19 had originated in Sweden, would we be calling it the kronavirus?” was posted on Twitter by Arid on May 8, 2020.

“Giving up being a collector of rare Icelandic, Danish, Norwegian and Swedish coins so I don’t get the Kronervirus” was posted on Twitter by Paul Kidd #BLM on March 2, 2020. “In Scandinavia they call it the Kronavirus” was posted on Twitter by Chris on March 3, 2020.

“I had to throw out all of my Danish currency. I didn’t wanna catch the Kronervirus” was posted on Reddit—Jokes on June 18, 2020.

Wikipedia: 2019-20 coronavirus outbreak
The 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic is an ongoing global pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The outbreak was first identified in Wuhan, Hubei, China, in December 2019, and was recognised as a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO) on 11 March 2020.

Wikipedia: Danish krone
The krone (Danish pronunciation: [ˈkʰʁoːnə]; plural: kroner; sign: kr.; code: DKK) is the official currency of Denmark, Greenland, and the Faroe Islands, introduced on 1 January 1875. Both the ISO code “DKK” and currency sign “kr.” are in common use; the former precedes the value, the latter in some contexts follows it. The currency is sometimes referred to as the Danish crown in English, since krone literally means crown. Historically, krone coins have been minted in Denmark since the 17th century.

Wikipedia: Icelandic króna
The króna or krona (sometimes called Icelandic crown; sign: kr; code: ISK) is the currency of Iceland. Iceland is the second smallest country by population, after the Seychelles, to have its own currency and monetary policy.

Wikipedia: Norwegian krone
The krone [ˈkrùːnə] (sign: kr; code: NOK), plural kroner, is the currency of Norway and its dependent territories. It is subdivided into 100 øre, which have existed only electronically since 2012. The name translates into English as crown.

Wikipedia: Swedish krona
The krona (Swedish: [ˈkrûːna]; plural: kronor; sign: kr; code: SEK) is the official currency of Sweden. Both the ISO code “SEK” and currency sign “kr” are in common use; the former precedes or follows the value, the latter usually follows it but, especially in the past, it sometimes preceded the value. In English, the currency is sometimes referred to as the Swedish crown, as krona literally means “crown” in Swedish. The Swedish krona was the ninth-most traded currency in the world by value in April 2016.

PSA - Not all illnesses are Coronavirus, there are some similar conditions so if you have a compulsion to:
-Use Swedish money - it’s Kronervirus.
- Sing ‘My Way’ - it’s Croonervirus.
-Buy a Toyota - it’s Corrollavirus.
-Stockpile toilet roll - it’s moronavirus.
You’re welcome.
