“If you’re planning to teach your children the value of a dollar, you’d better hurry up”

Parents often teach their children “the value of a dollar.” ““Teach your children the value of a dollar and the value of saving in their early days” was cited in a bank’s newspaper advertisement in 1915.

A weakening dollar has added some caustic humor to the saying. “Wise parents used to teach children the value of a dollar. Nowadays, it’s just as well not to tell them” was cited in 1957. “If you’re going to teach your children the value of a dollar, you’ll have to do it awfully fast!” was cited in 1966. “My wife says that if we want to teach our children the value of a dollar we’d better hurry up and do it” was cited in 1968.
