The 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic financially hurt many people, but many of them received stimulus checks from the U.S. government. It reminded some people of the line in the Dire Straits song “Money for Nothing” (1985): “That ain’t workin’ that’s the way you do it. Money for nothin’ and your chicks for free.”
