“If it’s flooded, forget it” (driving on flooded streets)

“If it’s flooded, forget it” means that if a street is flooded, it’s not safe to drive on. The adage was started by the Queensland (Australia) Fire and Emergency Services in 2011 and has been printed on many images.

“Turn around, don’t drown” is a similar saying that has been used in the United States.

Our “I don’t drive through flooded roads” ads were better than the new Qld Gvt ones “If it’s flooded, forget it”. IMHO. Good msg either way.

One thing you can count in Queensland is summer storms and flooded roads. One thing you can never predict, though, is what floodwater will do or what’s happened to the road underneath. No matter who you are or what you drive, the moment you decided to push through is the moment you give up control. Once it’s too late, the consequences could cost you your car, your insurance, your ego, your life… or someone else’s. Don’t be the one to find out. If it’s flooded, forget it!
