“If it can’t be found in Dallas, it can’t be found anywhere in the world”

Dallas has great shopping, with perhaps more shopping centers per capita than any other major city in the United States. The Dallas shopping motto is: “If it can’t be found in Dallas, it can’t be found anywhere in the world.”

The phrase possibly originated with shopping diva Sue Goldstein, who has a program called “The Underground Shopper” on KVCE radio in Dallas.

New York City’s “If you can’t find it on Fifth Avenue, it probably isn’t worth finding” is a somewhat similar saying.

Dallas City Guide - Shopping
For many people, Dallas means shopping. The city’s motto, after all, is ‘if it can’t be found in Dallas, it can’t be found anywhere’. This is where Neiman Marcus, 1618 Main Street, began its fashion business in 1907, as an ‘exclusive woman’s ready-to-wear store’. Today, all manner of big names have gravitated around it, including Saks Fifth Avenue, Rodier Paris, Tiffany & Co and Lord & Taylor. The huge department store chain JC Penney also originated in Dallas.

Shopping in Dallas
Dallas and shopping were made for each other.  With more shopping centers per capita than any other major U.S. city, then the saying must be true, “if it can’t be found in Dallas, it can’t be found anywhere.”  In Dallas you’ll enjoy the variety of shopping ambiance as much as the selection.  Old mixes with new in the West End Historic District, while McKinney Avenue/Uptown exudes modern sophistication and Deep Ellum caters to the avant-garde and eclectic.
