“If the early bird gets the worm, can I sleep in and get some bacon?”

“The early bird gets the worm” is a proverb dating from at least the 17th century. It means that whoever does something first has the best chance of success.  Many people like bacon for breakfast—not worms—and the saying has a popular variation.
