“I used to work in a shoe-recycling shop. It was sole-destroying”

Is working in a shoe shop “sole-destroying”? “I think I’ll leave the shoe shop soon and find a better paying job”/“One that’s not so sole-destroying?” was posted on the newsgroup aus.tv on May 2, 2006. “I used to work in a shoe shop but it was sole destroying” was posted on Twitter on January 30, 2010.

British comedian Alex Horne placed second in the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in August 2013 with this joke:

“I used to work in a shoe-recycling shop. It was sole-destroying.”

“I quit my job crushing cans. It was soda pressing” and “My job testing fizzy drinks is really getting to me. It’s soda grading” are similar puns about work.
