“I took my son to Coney Island. I asked, ‘Wanna go in the Crazy House?’” (joke)
One Coney Island amusement was a “Crazy House,” featuring walls at strange angles. New York-based comedian Rodney Dangerfield, filling in for syndicated entertainment columnist Jack O’Brian, wrote in July 1971 newspapers:
“The other day I took him (Dangerfield’s son—ed.) to Coney Island. I asked him if he wanted to go in the crazy house. He told me to save my money, we’ll be home soon.”
Dangerfield told the joke for many years and it’s uncertain when he first said it.

Even from my children I get no respect. The other day my boy told me to go to my room. He’s at the age now, he’s coming up with smart answers. The other day I took him to Coney Island. I asked him if he wanted to go in the crazy house. He told me to save my money, we’ll be home soon.

He said, “Nah, save your money, we’ll be home soon.”
