“I prefer my kale with a silent ‘k’”—that is, “ale”—is a jocular saying that has been printed on many images.  American television sports journalist Rich Esien said in a March 2016 commercial for Marriott hotels:
   
“Next time you order kale, try using a silent ‘k.’ It tastes so much better.”
