“I like bananas because they have no bones”
Bananas don’t have bones. “Also she (Rena Arnold—ed.) liked bananas because they have no bones in them” was a vaudeville joke printed in the Pittsburgh (PA) Post on September 14, 1920. “There are people who like bananas because they have no bones in them” was printed in the Pittsburgh (PA) Post on August 2, 1926.
“I Like Bananas (Because They Have No Bones)” (1936), written by Chris Yacich, is a novelty song that has had a long popularity. It was included in “Dr. Demento presents the greatest novelty records of all time. Vol. I, The 1940s” (1985).

I LIKE BANANAS (BECAUSE THEY HAVE NO BONES). Personally, I detest silly songs of this sort, but I suppose they fill a certain need on the part of orchestras who specialize in vocal novelties.

I’ve always enjoyed the Hoosiers’ take on this zany Chris Yacich-Lorraine Milne number but found this Brit version with vocalist George Elrick (who also does some spot-on mimicry of Jimmy Durante here) very worthy of an ear-bend:
I LIKE BANANAS (BECAUSE THEY HAVE NO BONES)
Standing by the fruit store on the corner,
Once I heard a customer complain:
“You never seem to show the fruit we all love so,
That’s why business hasn’t been the same.
I don’t like your peaches,
They are full of stones.
I like bananas,
Because they have no bones.
Don’t give me tomatoes,
Can’t stand ice cream cones,
I like bananas,
Because they have no bones.
No matter where I go,
with Susie, May or Anna,
I want the world to know,
I must have my banana!
Cabbages and onions,
hurt my singing tones,
I like bananas,
Because they have no bones!”

I Like Bananas sung by George Formby OBE, who was born 26 May 1904 and died 6 March 1961. He was an English singer-songwriter and comedian, well remembered for playing the banjo ukulele or banjolele and as a singer of well funny songs, that were riske at the time but now are quite mild.

George Cross
Part of the wildly popular “acid banjo jazz” genre of music of the early to late 1980s, “Bananas” was a one-hit wonder for its creator. It enjoyed a brief spate of radio airtime before being snapped up by the Dole company, which subsequently locked it in a vault for several millennia as part of their internationally recognized “All Bananas Are Dole Bananas, Damnit” campaign. Here it is, reproduced in its entirety, for the first time since the De-Corporatization Act Of 3914:
Ohhhh, I like bananas cause they’ve got no bones
They sing to me in singin’ tones
With my ‘nanas I ain’t never alone
Bananas, they got no bones
An orange, now, is full of pips
You spit and stop and stop and spit
And them watermelons are full of shit
But bananas ain’t got no bones
Bananas come in one big bunch
Like yaller daisies I just munch and munch
I can have banana fillet for lunch
Cause bananas ain’t got no bones!
Ohhh, I like bananas cause they’ve got no bones
They sing to me in singin’ tones
They can make a real good tellyphone
They shine like shiny twilight gloam
I got mine from Momma Nature on loan!
Ohhhh, bananas ain’t got nooooo BOOOONES!
