“I had to walk to school uphill, both ways! – M.C. Escher”
“I used to walk five miles to and from school, uphill both ways” is a joke on what some parents tell children. However, sometimes the speaker is stated to be Dutch graphic artist M. C. Escher (1898-1972), who drew similar designs.
“when I was a kid I had to walk to school uphill both ways! ...but I guess that’s what I get for going to school in an M.C. Escher painting” was posted on Twitter by dustin heveron on April 15, 2010. “You know those old-timer stories about walking to school, uphill, both ways? MC Escher actually did that” was posted on Twitter by “Dr. but not a ‘real’ Dr. - Tom Swanson” on October 26, 2010. “In reality, M.C. Wikipedia: M. C. Escher
Maurits Cornelis Escher (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈmʌurɪt͡s kɔrˈneːlɪs ˈɛʃər]; 17 June 1898 – 27 March 1972) was a Dutch graphic artist who made mathematically inspired woodcuts, lithographs, and mezzotints. Despite wide popular interest, Escher was for long somewhat neglected in the art world, even in his native Netherlands. He was 70 before a retrospective exhibition was held. In the late twentieth century, he became more widely appreciated, and in the twenty-first century he has been celebrated in exhibitions across the world.
His work features mathematical objects and operations including impossible objects, explorations of infinity, reflection, symmetry, perspective, truncated and stellated polyhedra, hyperbolic geometry, and tessellations.

Something just dawned on me: Did M.C. Escher have to walk to school, uphill both ways?

I wonder if kids got tired of M.C. Escher saying he had to walk to school uphill both ways to school and then drawing pictures to prove it.
