12 March 2012, Politico (Arlington, VA), “Women facing sexual McCarthyism” by Jennifer Granholm:
I hope it serves to create a whole new generation of activists. Unfortunately, those activists may need to fight the same fight their grandmothers fought in the ’60s. A woman protesting in Virginia held a sign that summed it up: “I can’t believe we still have to protest this sh—.” Elections have consequences, and today we are seeing the consequences of the nation falling asleep during the election of 2010.

Political Scene: The Politics of Contraception

“I thought the whole issue was summed up very well in the sign of a protester. Her sign said, ‘I can’t believe I still have to protest this shit,’” Ryan Lizza says in this week’s Political Scene podcast. She’s not the only one. “Contraception is used and accepted by the vast majority of American women, including the vast majority of Catholic women,” Margaret Talbot says. “This seems to me like the unlikeliest time imaginable for contraception, of all things, to suddenly be in political play again.”

One protest sign in recent marches says: “I can’t believe I still have to protest this s***.” Yes, misogyny has experienced a resurgence that is as persistent as the most noxious weed.
