Howlers (Jalapeño Howlers or Texas Howlers)

“Howlers” (also called “Jalapeño Howlers” or Texas Howlers”) are “jalapeño poppers.” They’re sliced jalapeños, breaded and deep fried, often combined with cheddar cheese or cream cheese. The Big Texan Steak Ranch (Amarillo, Texas) also calls them “Blazin’ Saddles” and “Ring of Fire.”
 
Why the name “howler”? Maybe because “jalapeño howlers” has alliteration, or because the food is so hot that you howl?

Jalapeno howlers
I finally got to try jalapeno howlers today at a bistro outside borders. And they were yummy and cheesy. I was with my sister. We shared a basket of jalapeno howlers and had some coffee.

When I was in Costa Rica we had something called “Howlers”, they were shots of tequila that had been infused with jalapenos. Damn they were good.
