“Hot dogs taste better when the home team wins”
Hot dogs have been sold at baseball games since at least the 1900s. Many sports enthusiasts have concluded that “hot dogs taste better when the home team wins.” “Do the Hot Dogs Taste Better When the Home Team Wins?” was the title of an academic paper published in 1996.

“I’ll miss the memories. For years I thought the Vet was a wonderful place. I would get excited driving to work. I think (the new ballpark) is going to be the best ballpark ever built. I say a prayer every night before going to bed that this new ballpark is accepted as one of the great cathedrals for baseballs. Of course winning helps a lot. The hot dogs taste better when you’re winning.”

Yuck. Here’s what’s wrong with the Leafs. These are some direct quotes of Richard Peddie, from The Hockey News a while back:
“Why wouldn’t we want to win? Nobody has ever been able to answer that question. Winning is good business. It’s good for sponorship, suite sales, television deals. Even the hot dogs taste better when you win. Are we doing well financially? Yes, but we’re very good at it.”

It seems that everyone in sports business is familiar with the adage that “hot dogs taste better when the team wins”. Why is that school of thought – that fans are happier with all aspects of the event experience when their team is winning – so prevalent?
Well… because it’s true.
