“Hire someone, fire someone, and rearrange the furniture” (a new CEO’s tasks)

American author, consultant and lecturer James C. “Jim” Collins  said this, as reported by August Turak in Forbes on August 16, 2012:

“The next tip is move quickly. One day he (Jim Collins—ed.) said, ‘Remember Augie, when you take a new job, hire somebody, fire somebody, rearrange the furniture, but whatever you do, do it fast.’”
   
“There’s an old joke about executive turnover: ‘When a new CEO starts, they have three ‘jobs’ to do: Hire someone, fire someone, and rearrange the furniture’” was printed on the blog Business 2 Community on November 11, 2019.
 
The idea is that a new executive is expected to make changes, even if they are cosmetic changes. It’s not known if Jim Collins or someone else was the first to say this.
