“Here Comes Mister Softee” (1959)
The Mister Softee jingle brings back fond memories to many; to others, it's simply more noise pollution. It's been the subject of a recent crackdown by Mayor Bloomberg on noise.
The soft ice cream trucks still roam the streets. Many stay in the same spot all day and don't really need that jingle. There are actually words to the song, but who knew?

Mister Softee Inc. was founded by two brothers, William and James Conway, in 1956. On St. Patricks day of that year, Bill and Jim took their first truck and gave out green colored ice cream in the neighborhoods of West Philadelphia.
By 1958 the company had outgrown the building in Philadelphia and moved to the current location in Runnemede, NJ. It is at this location that Mister Softee transforms plain trucks into Americas' most recognizable mobile ice cream vendor

A. The song was written by a Philadelphia advertising firm in 1959, according to James Conway, general manager of the Mister Softee company, and was used in television and radio advertisements in the early 1960's. It's called, ''Here Comes Mister Softee,'' and the words are:
The creamiest, dreamiest soft ice cream
You get from Mister Softee.
For a refreshing delight supreme
Look for Mister Softee.
My milkshakes and my sundaes and my cones are such a treat.
Listen for my store on wheels -- ding-a-ling down the street.

William Conway, 81, Founded Mister Softee
By STEPHEN MILLER Staff Reporter of the Sun
William Conway, who died February 27 at age 81, was the man who brought New York one of its most recognizable - and, to some, infuriating - sights and sounds of summertime: the gaudy white Mister Softee truck with its trademarked "Mister Softee" jingle blaring over and over from a speaker.
(...)
Conway, a native of Philadelphia, got his start in the business by selling green ice cream from a truck on St. Patrick's Day in 1956.
(...)
"We found there was a demand for soft ice cream," Conway told the Philadelphia Inquirer in a 1991 interview. "A local dairy developed the recipe, a friend drew up our 'conehead' trademark, and I came up with the name, six letters in each word."
It is unclear if he also came up with the lyrics and tune to the jingle, which was copyrighted in 1960.
