“Have you tried disabling cookies?”/“Well, I once bit the legs off a gingerbread man!”

An “HTTP cookie” is not something that’s eaten, but there have been several jokes. English comedian Lee Mack told this joke in 2010:

“The bloke fixing my PC said, ‘Have you tried disabling cookies?’ I said, ‘I bit the legs off a gingerbread man.’”

“Disabled cookies? In my day, we called them broken biscuits” is a related joke.

Wikipedia: HTTP cookie
An HTTP cookie (also called web cookie, Internet cookie, browser cookie, or simply cookie) is a small piece of data sent from a website and stored on the user’s computer by the user’s web browser while the user is browsing. Cookies were designed to be a reliable mechanism for websites to remember stateful information (such as items added in the shopping cart in an online store) or to record the user’s browsing activity (including clicking particular buttons, logging in, or recording which pages were visited in the past). They can also be used to remember arbitrary pieces of information that the user previously entered into form fields such as names, addresses, passwords, and credit card numbers.

Tribute shows to the Goons, the Carry Ons and Tommy Cooper may be all the rage - but the past isn’t the only place where old-school comedy flourishes. Lee Mack has just had his sitcom Not Going Out re-commissioned, and recently extended this 96-date UK tour. But, give or take the rude words, his jokes are as much 1970s as 2010. And none the worse for it.
