“Hasta la pizza” (hasta la vista + pizza)

“Hasta la vista” is Spanish for “see you later.” “Hasta la vista, baby” became a famous catchphrase of the movie Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991), starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.

“Hasta la pizza” was first cited in print in 1971 and “Hasta la pizza, baby” became popular in the early 1990s. “Hasta la pizza” means “see you later,” but it’s a jocular use from a person who does not speak Spanish. “Hasta la pizza” is also a “see you later” message between people who love pizza. Adam Kuban, an editor of Slice (a pizza blog), has frequently used “Hasta la pizza” at the end of his posts.

Similar sayings include “Hasta la pasta” and “Hasta lasagna, don’t get any on ya.”

Wikipedia: Hasta la vista, baby
“Hasta la vista, baby” is a catchphrase associated with Arnold Schwarzenegger’s title character from the 1991 science fiction thriller film Terminator 2: Judgment Day.

Origin
The term Hasta la vista is a Spanish farewell that can be literally translated as Until the viewing and means See you later. This term with added word baby - Hasta la vista, baby - was used in the popular hit song from 1987 “Looking for a New Love” by Grammy Award Winner Jody Watley, where it was already famous. It was also used in the 1988 Tone Loc single “Wild Thing.” The use of the term in Terminator 2: Judgment Day immortalized it as a worldwide popular catchphrase.

Film
Hasta la vista, baby became a world-famous catchphrase when it was used in the 1991 film Terminator 2, which was written by James Cameron and William Wisher Jr. The phrase features in an exchange between the film’s characters John Connor (Edward Furlong) and the Terminator (Arnold Schwarzenegger):

John Connor: No, no, no, no. You gotta listen to the way people talk. You don’t say “affirmative”, or some shit like that. You say “no problemo”. And if someone comes on to you with an attitude you say “eat me”. And if you want to shine them on it’s “hasta la vista, baby”. (1:11:16-34 time of film)
The Terminator: Hasta la vista, baby. (1:11:35-36)

I thought that this episode was really cute, especially when Alpha said “Alpha ranger to the rescue, hasta la pizza babay.” I still smile when i think about that line.

Serious Eats and Neighborhoodies Think Ups T-Shirt #2: Hasta La Pizza
Adam Kuban
Sep 23, 2008 3:30 PM
If you read Serious Eats yesterday, you know that we’re cooperating with custom-apparel-maker Neighborhoodies on a series of shirts called “Think Ups.” Our task was to think up five phrases for food-related T-shirts and hoodies, which Neighborhoodies would run with and create designs around. Neighborhoodies is releasing one SE Think Up a day this week.

Anyway, our second shirt has just appeared on the Neighborhoodies site: Hasta la Pizza. This one was my idea. It’s the catchphrase I use to sign Slice-related emails. Groan all you want, I think it’s delish.
