“Great trade! Who’d we get?”

Philadelphia Phillies baseball player Lenny Dykstra was told, in December 1991, that teammate Von Hayes had been traded. Dykstra said:

“Hey, that’s a great trade, who did we get?”

“Great trade! Who’d we get?” became a jocular sports saying indicating that sometimes a trade is more about getting rid of a player than in getting anything back.

Leonard Kyle Dykstra (/ˈdaɪkstrə/; born February 10, 1963), nicknamed “Nails” and “Dude”, is a former Major League Baseball center fielder and convicted felon. Dykstra played for the New York Mets during the mid-to-late 1980s and the Philadelphia Phillies in the early-to-mid-1990s.

Hayes, however, was not the most popular player on the Phillies. When hearing of the deal, teammate Lenny Dykstra said, “Hey, that’s a great trade, who did wis get?”

NAILING HAYES: Philadelphia’s Lenny “Nails” Dykstra won’t miss fellow outfielder Von Hayes, who was tradedSUnday to California for left-handed pitcher Kyle Abbott and outfielder Ruben Amaro Jr. When told of Hayes’ departure, Dykstra said: “Great trade. Who’d we get?” After learning who the Phillies got, Dykstra quipped: “Really. We got two players for him?”

Great Trade. Who’d We Get?
I couldn’t help invoking the mythical words of Lenny Dykstra when informed that the Phillies had just traded Von Hayes to the Indians after learning that the Indians had just traded Bob Wickman to the Braves.

I’m reminded of Lenny Dykstra’s famous 1991 quote upon hearing the Phillies had traded away Von Hayes, a less-than-popular teammate:

“Great trade!” Dykstra said. “Who’d we get?”

Same principal for the Bears. Angelo is out, and even though a replacement isn’t lined up yet, no one seems too bummed about the ousting.
