Governmentland (government + land)
“Governmentland” (government + land) has been cited in print since at least February 1997 as “Governmentland on the Potomac” (Washington, DC, the capital city on the Potomac River) by Sarah F. Wassum (apparently also “sfw” in other messages). “Governmentland USA – McLean, Va/Washington DC.” was cited in print in 2007.
Since about 2005, however, “Governmentland” has meant a sort of government heaven where bureaucrats rule over all. “Joe Biden comes from Governmentland where jobs are ‘permanent’” was cited in 2011 and illustrates the use of “Governmentland” as a bureaucratic dreamland.

Give you a chance to see DC as a real place, rather than as Governmentland on the Potomac.

Only in Governmentland can you run a business poorly, lose money, and still pay yourself and your friends hefty salaries. The people at the top have missed the bus.
