“Fresh pork and new wine kill a man before his time”
“Fresh pork and new wine kill a man before his time” is an old Spanish proverb; the pork can be cured and the wine can be aged to provide a better meal. The original Spanish proverb (with a different ending) has been cited in print since at least 1726:
”Puérco frèsco, y vim nuévo, Christianíllo al cimentério: Fresh Pork, and new Wine send a Christian to the Churchyard. That is, they are both unwholesome.”
“Fresh pork and new wine kill a man before his time” has been cited in print since at least 1857.
