Freedom Mask (face mask)

The 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic resulted in some requirements to wear face masks. The face mask was sometimes called a “freedom mask” because wearing a mask gave one “freedom” to participate in society again. “Freedom mask” also means a face mask with a patriotic design on it, such as the American flag.

“Tell them its a freedom mask. It protects their freedom of speech so the liberals can’t read their lips” was posted on Twitter by Jon Albright on March 27, 2020. Bill Pullman, who played the president in the film Independence Day (1996), did a public service announcement for July 4, 2020, saying:

“Hello America. I may not be your president right now, but I’ve got to tell you that Fourth of July is still my favorite holiday, and it always will be. This Independence Day, I’m going to be celebrating my freedom in an important way. I’m going to be wearing my freedom mask every time I go into public. That’s right — freedom mask. Because if all of America agreed to wear one of these going into public places, we’d be a little closer to being free to safely go back to places like bars and restaurants and schools and, most importantly, movie theaters.”

“Freedom shot” (Covid vaccination nickname) is a similar “freedom” term.

Mask is for your protection. Maybe we should call it ‘freedom’ mask if it makes you feel better?
Please do some research on Korea, Japan, HongKong, Taiwan. They all got covid19 under control because of wearing masks.
It has nothing to do with my rights.

Bill Pullman invokes ‘Independence Day’ in a PSA for responsible mask-wearing
BY ADAM ROSENBERG
JULY 4, 2020
Bill Pullman wants you all to wear your masks on this pandemic-stricken Fourth of July. Call them “Freedom Masks” if that makes it an easier pill to swallow. It’s accurate, even! If enough people wear masks that we can beat this pandemic back, we may get to enjoy some of our basic freedoms again.
