“Fools rush in where wise men fear to trade”

“For fools rush in where angels fear to tread” is a famous line in English poet Alexander Pope‘s “An Essay on Criticism” (1711). A horse-buying parody was popular in 1881:

“We have impressed on our readers a short time ago, how careful the dabblers in horseflesh should be, and it is often with surprise we notice how fools are bold where wise men fear to trade.”

“Fools are rushing in where wise men fear to trade,” financial columnist B. C. Forbes (1880-1954) wrote in 1915. “Florida Maxim — Fools rush in where wise men fear to trade” was printed in 1926.  Canadian author Laurence J. Peter (1919-1990) wrote in “Peter’s Almanac” in 1983:

“In the stock market, fools rush in where wise men fear to trade.”
