Fluther (flu + truther)

The 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic was disputed by some, who claimed that it was basically the same as the seasonal flu. “Fluther” (flu + truther) is a portmanteau word that was used. “Fluther” is also a collective noun for jellyfish.

the internet informs me that fluther is the collective noun for jellyfish, just in case you were wondering which particular grammar seeded this tweet

Fluthers gonna fluthe? Yea, x10 puts us 450 million cases. China seems to be carrying the blunt of this. With 700M+ in quarantine, even 450 millions is more than feasible.

I responded to a fluther yesterday. Forget the numbers, has anybody worn a hazmat suit in treating flu patients?

Get out of here with the fluther stuff. It is an order of magnitude less as a threat than this on an individual and social level. How do you not have the ability to extrapolate and see exponential growth. Even without math acumen, look at how doctors dying, governments reacting

Don’t believe the #flubros or the #fluthers. They are the ones who provided the shell of legitimacy for gov to drag their feet. #COVID19

Exactly! My only advice as an Italian is: don’t trust anyone who says that’s just a flu&it only kills old/ill people. Don’t underestimate this epidemic. If you don’t halt the contagion or slow it, you’ll find yourselves with a health system that can’t be efficient anymore.

If Obama were running for re-election and not Trump, would we even be talking about COVID-19 right now?

Has anyone coined the word “Fluther” to describe those people disseminating crazy coronavirus conspiracies? If not, it’s mine and if I see it on the Internet I will know you stole my idea.

“Coronavirus truther” @nathanTbernard? Why haven’t we collectively agreed on FLUTHER yet? Are we above it or something? Will it somehow demean the seriousness of exposing these people? I mean, shit, TRUTHER is already a silly portmanteau. Let’s just go for it. #Fluther

A coronavirus truther in New York tells conspiracy theorist James O’Keefe that coronavirus is “just like the flu”, and that he’s hanging out “in the tents” with infected patients, but feeling “good”.
This propaganda will get people killed.
