“Every great dream begins with a dreamer”

A quote about dreams appeared in the Winnipeg (Manitoba) Free Press on October 15, 2005:

“Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.”—Harriet Tubman

American abolitionist Harriet Tubman (1822-1913) did not say the quote, and it doesn’t read like anything she would have said. It’s not known why Tubman was falsely credited with the inspirational quote.

Wikipedia: Hariet Tubman
Harriet Tubman (born Araminta Ross; c. 1822 – March 10, 1913) was an American abolitionist, humanitarian, and an armed scout and spy for the United States Army during the American Civil War. Born into slavery, Tubman escaped and subsequently made some thirteen missions to rescue approximately seventy enslaved families and friends, using the network of antislavery activists and safe houses known as the Underground Railroad. She later helped abolitionist John Brown recruit men for his raid on Harpers Ferry, and in the post-war era was an active participant in the struggle for women’s suffrage.

Twenty-dollar bill
On April 20, 2016, Treasury Secretary Jack Lew announced plans to add Tubman to the front of the twenty-dollar bill, moving President Andrew Jackson, a slave owner, to the rear of the bill.

Bill de Blasio tweeted a fake-as-hell Hallmark-esque Harriet Tubman quote. The New York mayor, or the person who runs his Twitter account, is a sucker for inspirational quote cards. On Wednesday, after the Treasury Department announced Tubman would replace Andrew Jackson on the $20 bill, de Blasio tweeted that Tubman “says it best.” Here’s what Tubman supposedly said best: “Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.” There are even insipid twinkling stars in the image.

Harriet Tubman did not say this weak inspirational garbage.
